Put it on layby. Get paid on your own checkout.
Let customers hold an item with a deposit and pay it off over a few weeks. LaybyKit handles the agreement, the reminders and the refunds the way Australia’s lay-by rules require.
Four steps from “Layby it” to dispatch
Customer chooses layby
A “Layby it” button on eligible products shows the deposit and the payment plan before they commit.
You hold the stock
Once the deposit is paid, the item is reserved for them so it can’t be sold to someone else.
They pay as they go
Each instalment is paid from a reminder email, through your normal Shopify checkout.
Final payment, then ship
When the balance hits zero, the order is ready to fulfil like any other.
The lay-by rules, built in
Lay-by agreements have their own rules in the ACL. LaybyKit follows them by default, so you don’t have to work them out case by case.
A written agreement
Every layby gets an agreement with the price, deposit, schedule and cancellation terms, and the customer gets a copy by email.
Customers can cancel any time
Up until delivery. A cancellation fee only applies when the customer cancels, and it can’t exceed your reasonable costs.
When you can cancel
Only if the customer breaches the agreement, you stop trading, or the goods are no longer available.
Refunds worked out for you
All payments back, less any allowed fee. If you cancel because the goods are unavailable, the customer gets everything back.
LaybyKit provides agreement templates and calculations, not legal advice.
Your checkout, your money, clean books
Payments go straight to you
Every deposit and instalment is a normal Shopify checkout payment. LaybyKit never holds your funds.
GST on each payment
GST is calculated on each instalment as it comes in, which lines up with cash-basis GST reporting. Check your setup with your accountant.
No credit checks, no per-sale fee
Unlike buy now, pay later, your customers aren’t credit-checked and you don’t pay a percentage of every sale.
A flat monthly price
Prices are in Australian dollars and may change before launch. 14-day free trial on paid plans. Billing will run through Shopify.

Before you sign up
Can I install it today?
Not yet. LaybyKit is in development and early-access stores will be invited first. Joining the list doesn’t commit you to anything.
Do I need Shopify Plus?
No. LaybyKit is being built and tested on the standard Basic plan.
Which stores is layby good for?
Mostly higher-priced items people plan ahead for: jewellery, furniture, prams, bikes, appliances and gifts before Christmas.
What happens to the email I give you?
We use it only to tell you about LaybyKit’s early access and launch. You can ask us to remove it at any time.
Be first to offer layby on your store
Leave your email and we’ll let you know as soon as LaybyKit is ready to install.
